    Built by AMEK in Manchester. 16 channels, aux returns for FX, dark-stained wooden frame.

    North Arm Drive, Lake Minnetonka. Tracking on this desk spans the Prince album through the start of Controversy. Dirty Mind recorded here, Prince engineering as “Jamie Starr”. The takes cut on this desk are the versions on the album. Final mixes: Hollywood Sound Recorders, LA.

    Dr. Fink keeps the desk. Kris, a producer born in Halle, asks to buy it; Fink says no. That wait lasts ~20 years.

    Kris Vanderheyden buys it. An eight-month Prince Estate review follows; the Estate first wants it for Paisley Park.

    15 DEC 2025

    It lands in Walhain, the geographic centre of Belgium. Restoration begins, built to last another 50 years. VRT breaks the story 17.04.2026.

How a mix works

At Purple Mind Studio in Walhain, we treat sound as an art form rather than a numbers game. We offer a highly specialised, boutique approach designed for artists, producers and labels who want to inject true vintage analog warmth, harmonic weight and historical mojo into their music.

At the centre of our workflow sits a hand-built 1977 Amek mixing console: a desk with an incredible pedigree, previously owned and used by Prince. Running your multitrack projects through this rare piece of hardware gives your sound a dimension, depth and character of its own: the sound behind so many classic New Wave hits, recorded in basements.

  1. BOOK

    Send your track, demo or rough mix with a short note about the sound you’re after. Scope, schedule and the final quote are confirmed before work begins.

  2. SEND

    Stems, up to 16, for a passthru or a full mix. A rough mix and a short note help.

  3. THROUGH THE DESK

    The mix is shaped around the music: balance, tone, dynamics, space, energy. It runs through the Amek and is captured through the Audient Horizon 32 at 32-bit / 192 kHz.

  4. RECEIVE

    Your mix comes back with two revision rounds included. Extra stems, extensive editing and alternate versions are quoted separately.

A.K.A. INSIDER WALHAIN, BE

Kris Vanderheyden is a Belgian producer and remixer whose career spans more than three decades. Known to club audiences as INSIDER, he is one of the pioneers of Belgian techno.

His remix work includes Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs No. 1 remixes for Blondie and Janet Jackson. Across his career he has released music on labels including Music Man, Cocoon and R&S Records.

Today he brings that experience to each production and mix, alongside a rare piece of music history: Prince’s original Amek console.
